Plex.tv/link is the official web address you use to connect your TV or streaming device to your Plex account in seconds. Instead of typing a long email and password with a remote control, you simply enter a short code from your screen into a browser on your phone, tablet, or computer. This guide walks you through every step, from creating a Plex account to linking your device and managing authorized devices afterward.

What you need before you start

Before you open the Plex app on your TV, gather a few things so the process goes smoothly.
  • A Plex account (free to create at plex.tv).
  • A TV or streaming device with the Plex app installed.
  • A second device with a web browser (phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop).
  • A stable internet connection on both devices.
If you already have a Plex account, you can skip ahead to the linking steps. If not, the next section shows you how to sign up.

Creating your Plex account

Plex accounts are free and give you access to your own media library, live TV channels, and on-demand content. Plex Pass is an optional paid upgrade, but you do not need it to link a device.
1

Open a web browser

On your phone, tablet, or computer, go to plex.tv and select Sign Up.
2

Choose a sign-up method

You can register with an email address and password, or use Continue with Google, Apple, or Facebook for a faster setup.
3

Confirm your email

If you used email, check your inbox for a confirmation message and follow the link inside to verify your account.
Once your account is active, keep the browser open so you can use it during the linking process.

Installing the Plex app on your device

The Plex app is available on most modern TVs and streaming hardware. Download it from the store that matches your device. After installation, open the app so it can generate your link code. This is the core activation process. The TV shows a 4-character code, and you enter it on the official link page from another device.
1

Open Plex on the TV and choose Sign In

Launch the Plex app on your television or streaming device. On the welcome screen, select Sign In. Some apps may label this Link Device or show a code automatically.
2

Write down the 4-character code

The TV displays a short code made of letters and numbers, such as A3B7 or X9K2. This is the code you will enter on the linking page. It is temporary and expires after a short time, so do not wait too long.
3

Open the link page in a browser

On your phone, tablet, or computer, go to https plex.tv link (https://www.plex.tv/link or plex.tv/link). Make sure you are signed in to the correct Plex account.
4

Enter the code and submit

Type the 4 characters exactly as shown on the TV screen, then select Link or Submit. The TV app should sign in automatically within a few seconds.
5

Verify the connection

Check that your username or avatar appears inside the TV app. Browse a few menus to confirm the link is active and the device is pulling your library and preferences.
If the code is rejected, check for common typos. The characters 0 and O, 1 and I, and 5 and S can look alike depending on the font. If the code expired, simply press back on the TV and request a fresh one.

Activating the TV after signing in

Once the link is accepted, the TV app completes activation on its own. You do not need to re-enter credentials. Your watchlists, server connections, and On Plex preferences will sync automatically. If your personal media server does not appear after linking, make sure the server is online and that your Plex account has access to it.

Managing your linked devices

Over time you may link several TVs, phones, and tablets. Plex lets you review and remove authorized devices from your account settings.
1

Open Plex account settings

On a browser, go to plex.tv and sign in. Click your profile icon, then choose Account.
2

View Authorized Devices

Find the Authorized Devices section. This list shows every gadget that has been linked to your account, including the date it was added.
3

Remove a device

Select the device you want to unlink, then click Remove or the trash icon. The device will be signed out immediately and will need a new code to reconnect.
Removing old or unfamiliar devices is a good security habit, especially if you have linked a public TV or a friend’s streaming stick in the past.

Frequently asked questions

You can remove the TV from your Authorized Devices list on plex.tv, or look for a Sign Out option inside the Plex app settings on the TV itself. After removal, the app returns to the welcome screen.
